Description This locus defines the top edge of a ceramic canalization pipe still in situ. The rectangular ceramic pipe tile extends about 0.7 m above the current level of the preserved section of the suspended floor’s subflooring. In antiquity, this exposed portion of the pipe would probably have been surrounded by now-missing limestone pavers and/or marble opus sectile pieces making its top surface flush with the floor level (cf. Locus 25). The ceramic pipe was not excavated, but it presumably extends down through the floor’s substructure to the level of the terracotta tile subfloor (Locus 17).
