Description The Theatron pavement was damaged when originally excavated in 1997 and 2000 from the original collapse and destruction events that damaged the Great Temple. However, the past seven years have not been kind to the floor, sustaining further damage and fractures either by constant tourist traffic or the winter rains. It was necessary to remove a section of the pavement in order to investigate more fully the construction technique of the Theatron. The pavement was in better condition near the walls of the Theatron with more localized damage and absences in the north. The pavement is rectilinear and is laid like a planked wood floor — extending north south in regular rows. Bedal mentions that the floor of the Theatron west consists of purplish-white pavers with a distinct row of red sandstone pavement in the center extending north south across the center axis of the floor. The necessity of the excavations required this distinct aspect of the floor of the Theatron to be removed and thus should be considered as a priority of restoration or for a restored model to be placed in the Theatron to show this unusual feature.
