Definition | Sandy/silty fill. |
Description | Locus 10 is a silty/sandy layer of fine, compacted soil, color 7.5YR 4/4 (brown). It was originally recognized in the balk in the southwest quadrant and was properly excavated when work moved into the southeast quadrant. Even so, some Locus 10 pottery may have been labeled as Locus 3, the overlying fill layer. Locus 10 slumps against the oblique canalization walls, Loci 8 and 30, and may represent stabilizing fill; it contains a prodigious amount of homogenous pottery which may be important for absolute dating of the platform fills and canalization. |
