Description Locus 4 represents the terracotta tile floor found beneath the pavers of the landing. Nine pavers were visible: three lay directly beneath the removed paver and were completely exposed. The other six were visible emerging from the east and west balks of the trench. The tiles themselves are coarse terracotta with a slightly pink patina. Each measures approximately 0.265 m-by-0.26 m-by-0.04 m. They were set in gray mortar/cement that had many charcoal inclusions, and resembled the soil level directly below the tiles. A stucco sample was taken of the mortar/cement for further analysis.
Phase VI
Underlies Loci 1, 2, 3.
