Phase IV
Stage Description Construction of the East Corridor Wall and doorways.
Description Locus 27 is the third doorway south in East Corridor Wall. The western side of the doorway had not been previously excavated in the East Corridor, and could not be fully excavated for logistical reasons. It is comprised of large limestone ashlars with cut doorjambs. The doorway contains a limestone threshold, with limestone and sandstone doorjambs. Some plaster was found in the doorway, which originally adhered to its walls. Three spaces for door attachments are incised into each side of the doorway. Both lock holes remain in the center of the threshold. As with the other two doorways, the threshold of the South Doorway contains three sections, however, in their current iteration are stepped. The north side of the doorway is 10 courses high, and the south side is 12 courses high. The doorway is 1.80 m in width on the east, and 2.14 m in width on the west.
