A pick pass was done in the metre between stumps D and F across the whole trench. The darker, clay like soil with a slightly red tone first sighted yesterday around the roots is visible to the east among the roots of all stumps. However, it seems to be closely associated with the stumps rather than forming a discrete new locus as yet. A pick pass was then done over the northern metre of the trench where several (8) pieces of terracotta were found. In the north western area of the trench, a piece of bronze was found. After clearing up this pick pass, the area between CV 53 and 56 was levelled with hand picks. A pick pass was then done across the next metre southwards, where more terracotta is appearing. The next pick pass in the SW metre also revealed terracotta. While this was being picked up and sorted, the major part of Stump D was removed with axe and saw and work began on removing Stump E, which was taken out just before lunch.

A pick pass was done across the northern metre. More terracotta is appearing on the western side, while in the east a slightly darker soil is appearing, similar in colour and texture to that in the south east noted earlier. Another pick pass was made on the central trench area from west to east. While sorting this, a cavetto fragment (Special Find No. 2) was found.

A final pick pass was done in the south western corner of the trench while baulk walling took place on the eastern baulk. This was cleared and roots clipped to end the day.
