Architectural or Soil Locus? Soil
Description This locus, 8 m-x-3 m, equals Locus 6, soil/fill, in Trench 11 and Locus 14 in Trench 10, 1994. This deposition layer of Munsell black brown (5YR 3/2) soil has ash and charcoal bits over its surface. There are inclusions of yellow-green clay material recorded as well at the Temple of the Winged Lions as roof fall. This layer contains pottery, plaster, metal fragments, roof tiles, broken ashlars, cornice and capital fragments. This is the final deposition layer over the pavers (Locus 16), the fill (Locus 18) and the stair riser (Locus 21). Pottery inclusions, 29063, were fragments of large storage vessels, plates, jugs, roof tiles and cooking pots. Metal inclusions, 29069, three pieces, were not identifiable. Bone inclusions, 29071, continued to be an assemblage of goat, sheep, pig, camel and small fowl. Tesserae inclusions, 29072, amounted to 44 pieces. These were counted but not saved.
