Description This locus consists of the top-soil layer. It consists of dark-brown soil in which are mixed a large number of roots and numerous fist-size and smaller stones. There are three stumps and one tree in the locus. The closing SE co-ordinate depth measurement is made on the NW corner of the section of soil left around the base of the tree in the SE corner. Approximately 7/12 bowl (16 cm. in diameter/8 cm. in depth) of small well-worn fragments of terracotta was recovered. 11 sherds of pottery were found.
