Description A stone wall on a north south axis, extending from the southernmost extent of the bedrock cut of the cistern to the south (interior) face of the south wall (Locus 10) of the cistern. It seems to be a support element built in conjunction with the cistern’s south wall, and creates two separate niches behind the arches of the south wall. On its west face is a break in its plaster coating through which can be seen the underlying stone construction. The stones are far apart, suggesting that it is of relatively poor construction (much like the south wall) and relied on plaster for much of its sturdiness.
Size 1.14 m in north south length (on either side)-by-1.43 m in depth (to top of fill on east side) and 1.94 m in depth (to top of fill on west side).
Stage Stage 2
Location Behind south wall (Locus 10) of cistern, between niches (Loci 11 and 12) to south of arches (Loci 8 and 9).
Relations Runs up to: Locus 4, bedrock, on ceiling.
Underlies Locus 4, bedrock.
Definition North south wall separating niches behind south wall arches of cistern
Phase IV
Stage Description Strengthening of the ceiling support system (probably shortly after Stage 2, or in its later extent).
