Definition Later wall
Description Locus 11 is a Byzantine wall made of fallen and stolen stones. There is no evidence of mortar between the stones, instead there is fill and chinking stones holding the wall together. It stands on the layer of abandonment (Locus 6), between the column (Locus 2) and the engaged column in Trench 5, on top of the stylobate (Locus 10). South of the column, the wall is missing stones, which could be a result of later destruction. The layer of plaster around the column (Locus 8) stops at the wall, bonding to it, as well as the mortar around it (Locus 5). The wall (Locus 11) underlies the topsoil. The drums that make up part of the wall are roughly the same diameter as the column but very easily could have been robbed or found somewhere else. There is no way of proving that the wall continues to the north of the column (Locus 2), because the wall that runs north of the column only consists of a few floating stones in the balk and a column drum that is somewhat at an eastward slant and which could have easily washed down either during a destruction or over time.
