Description | An unexpected feature found in front of the distyle wall in the east corridor and to the west of the foundation for the east corridor wall. Whether this was architecturally added to define the area between these two features or whether it was in place to add extra support for the architectural features in place as well as an extra leveling platform is difficult to determine except that the feature also has a possible continuation after Loci 25 and 29. The small square platform wall juts out from the ante support wall and forms and extra corner of stone, three courses in height and at least 2 rows wide. The sandstone ashlars are rough hewn and filled with sizable chinking stones. The construction was likely not meant to be seen although its purpose is still uncertain. |
