July 28th
Work resumed this morning in grid L/5-7 and L/9-10. The burned layer in L/5-7 [ see diagram pg. 108 ] again yielded heavy amounts of well-fired bucchero, some bronze and occasional pieces of Ionic pottery. Finds in this area included a horizontal sima section with a rosette attachment, a gorgon head fragment,
a piece of worked bone and what may be a statue fragment.
Grid L/9-10 provided another piece of worked bone and some pieces of coarseware and bucchero. A fragment of banquet frieze plaque with cavetto was found in L-10.
A cut into grid L/11-14 revealed a small stone packing throughout the approx depth of 1m. Pottery included some coarse-ware and bucchero as well as chunks of pan-tile and terracotta.
The morning's work ended with an initial cut into J-K/2. Pieces of bucchero and painted pottery were found.
