July 27th

Work commenced this morning in the L grid, 3-9.  A heavy stone packing in grid L/3-4, directly beneath the soil surface, has been uncovered and defined [ see diagram opposite page ].

A thick layer of burned soil in K-L/5-7 [ see page 114 ] yielded numerous pieces of well-fired bucchero and painted Ionic pottery.

Grid L/8-9 provided occasional fragments of coarseware pottery and tile chunks.
