CB 47 was opened in a two meter by three meter trench between 33 and 35 south and 5 and 8 west. It was triangulated off of CB 45, and also neighbors CB 46. These trenches are located in the northern part of Civitate B, just across the Medieval road from Civitate A.
Locus 1 declared over the whole trench. Opening photographs and opening elevations of Locus 1 taken.
Opening Elevations of Locus 1:
NW Corner: 29.93m A.E.
NE Corner: 29.85m A.E.
SE Corner: 29.85m A.E.
SW Corner: 29.89m A.E.
Locus 1 is a dark brown to black topsoil humus layer. It is filled with organic debris, including carbon, roots, sticks, and leaves.
Pick pass done in the northern three meter by one meter strip. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench, consistent with Locus 1 . In areas a lighter brown soil is already appearing below the Locus 1 humus later. An iron fragment found in cleaning, possibly modern.

Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench remains consistent with Locus 1 soil. Lighter brown soil being exposed beneath Locus 1 in the entire southern meter strip. Terra cotta being recovered, and a small amount of pottery. Picking don in the northern three meter by one meter area to level down to the lighter brown soil everywhere in the trench. Baulk walling begun in preparation for declaring Locus 2 . Baulk wall trim collected with Locus 1 material, as it is the only locus open and covers the whole trench. Finding terra cotta
consistent with the amount in the main area of the trench, with little amounts of pottery still being found. One piece of worked chert found while baulk walling.
Find 3: Worked Chert Fragment
Locus 1

visible on the surface of the locus in several places. Pick pass done in the northern three meter by one meter strip. Soil sorted and cleaned from the trench, remains consistent with Locus 2 . Terra cotta and a small amount of pottery found. Roots clipped.
