Description Locus 1 spanned the entirety of the original part of the trench. Soil was heavy in roots and palm-sized stones and was also dry and clumpy in texture. In addition, the soil was also medium brown in color. In the northwest corner of Locus 1, a fairly large tree stump was present, and in the northeast corner, a medium sized divot was present as well but the soil around it remained consistent. Locus 1 contained many fingernail-sized pieces of terra cotta but contained very low quantities of pottery, and bone was absent. The eastern side of Locus 1 is also more elevated than the western side by about 15 centimeters. Locus 1 is categorized as topsoil and therefore is not a contextual layer.
