Description | The beautifully carved limestone base of the Deirdre column, approx. 1.95 m in diameter with an Attic profile. It mirrors the bases of the other columns of the interior colonnade. Well-preserved, there are a few breaks at the edges. The base is partly obscured where it "inserts" into the later Inter-Columnar wall (see Locus 40 below). The floor bedding runs under the base into a "notch" underneath the molded elements, but a leveling or stylobate course is visible, supporting the feature. |
