Description Some of the soil below the Locus 17 block is dense and compact, above which there rests a burned small pebbly deposit. The Munsell color is a Dark Brown 7.5YR3/2. The compacted soil is a Light Brown, Munsell 7.5YR 6/4. Some of this soil is mixed with pieces of deteriorated mortar. Snecking stones have been used to support the block. There is an interstice at the rear of the block measuring 0.09 m.

Size The Locus 17 stair block removed is the second block from the east in Locus 7, measuring 0.56 in width-by-0.50 m in length-by- 0.195 in height. Locus 18 is the bottom step of the Locus 9 Stairs. This ashlar measures 0.22 m–by-0.23 m in height-by-0.74 m in length-by- 0.31 m in width. This ashlar rests on the Locus 8 platform, which was interesting because the ashlar platform because the platform has another ashlar continuing underneath this lowest step at the same level as the platform. The step ashlar was then inserted, leveled and backed with mud mortar. Snecking stones were then inserted to level the step and to give it stability. The soil behind the stone was light brown in color and was mixed with plaster.
