Definition | East Anta Pier, Pierre. |
Description | The Anta Pier is rectangular, 2.1 m long-x-1.24 m wide-x-3.21 m in height, and emerged in Locus 1. The construction is of a combination of sandstone and limestone. There is a string course of diagonally dressed blocks forming a foundation for the pier with an upper course of limestone blocks carved with an Attic base on the north and east faces. There is a partial continuance of the Attic cornice on the east side. Additionally, the east side has a constructed arch pilaster above the Attic cornice base. The upper sandstone courses show the continuation of the arch pilaster. These courses are periodically diagonally dressed to hold plaster. Plaster inclusions Locus 7, were revealed in the cracks. No foundation excavation was conducted to explore the remaining foundation of the pier or the existence of the stairway Locus 8. |
