Description | Locus 30 is an early wall spanning the north-south length of the trench. It is constructed of sandstone blocks mortared with hard-packed dirt or clay. Several of the blocks are diagonally dressed and one had traces of white, unpainted plaster adhering to it. Set into the wall, several courses down, are flat sandstone blocks which may be associated with a stylobate. This may indicate that the wall was a foundation for one stylobate of the western triple colonnade. However, it is possible that these flat stones were simply re-used, placed into the wall after the stylobate and triple colonnade were disturbed. |
Definition | Early wall. |
