Definition First Floor Bedding (South of Locus 9)
Stage Description Propylaeum Retaining Wall built and floor bedding of the Propylaeum West south gallery installed.
Location South of south edge of Locus 9.
Description This architectural level constituted the south portion of the earliest floor bedding of the PWC. Locus 11 was similar to Locus 10 in soil color (Munsell 5YR 4/6, Yellowish Red) and the type of inclusions (see above). However, it was distinguished from Locus 10 because it was sealed (by Loci 7, 9, and 3). The maximum height of Locus 10 was approximately equal to elevations of the south edge of Locus 9 and the leveling course in the South Wall. A Nabataean bowl (approximately 65% complete; see Seq. No. 86096) was discovered in this locus. The excavator’s early approximation of its form and decoration places its date of manufacture between 30 BC and 10 AD (Schmidt’s Phase 2a).
Combined with Loci 10, 20.
