Phase IV
Description This layer is a loose, unusually rocky, red soil (Munsell 10YR 5/4 yellowish brown) with no finds. It was found during an exploration of the northeast corner of the trench, hoping to find the wall that is present in Trench 25. It is covered by the same red layer (Locus 4) that is present as an under bedding in Trench 25; however, there is no parallel to Locus 6 in Trench 25. Because the wall was not found in this area, very little of the trench was excavated down to this layer. Because of this, because there was no evidence of this layer in Trench 25, and because it was found where a wall was expected, it is not well understood. Locus 6 was taken down to a final depth of 1.058 m below the datum point on the column drum, in search of the wall, before it was decided that the wall was not there. At that time all that had been exposed of Locus 6 was covered, and the hole in the northeast was used as a dump (Daily Field Form 28047).
