Definition Northern Wall
Underlies Locus 1.
Description Locus 7, measuring 4.60 m long from the West Wall to the door, is a wall constructed of sandstone ashlars in a manner typical of wall construction in the Great Temple, i.e., irregular sandstone, limestone, and chert blocks faced with regular ashlars. The wall, unlike the other three walls in Trench 55, is not perpendicular in orientation to the other three walls. Rather, it extends at an acute angle to the north (in relation to the West Wall) to help support the Theater located to the north. Locus 7 is also shorter in length than the other walls due to the construction of the vaulted ceiling. The preserved height is unknown since the bottom of the wall was not reached by the end of excavation.
Location Extends along the northern boundary of the trench, roughly east west, at an angle to accommodate the Theater north of the trench.
Bottom (m) Closing levels: 906.516 m center.
Stage Stage 1
Combined with None.
Top (m) Opening levels: 907.306 m center, top of first preserved course.
