Description Locus 9 consisted of the topsoil located in the eastern extension of the trench. This locus contained both a dark brown, grass-root filled humous layer and the underlying dark brown, claylike soil. In both soil packages, some small rocks and many roots were found but very little archaeological material, including terracotta roofing tile and pottery, was recovered; no bone or metals were found in this locus. Locus 9 was a fairly thick package, measuring approximately 30 cm in depth. A mixture of both ancient and modern material was found in this locus, indicating that it is not a contextually sound deposit. Locus 9 is equivalent to Loci 1,2, and 7.
