Description | Prior to the floor / sub floor, which extends underneath the cavea there is evidence that the area was burned. Although the soil is the same consistency as the above, the localized burning was evident from the dark grayish brown soil color (10 YR 4/2), charcoal remains and burned ceramics. I think it is doubtful this is the remains of a cooking fire because of its consistency throughout the trench but may represent a minor damage and subsequent destructive fire. It may also be a construction technique for the placing of the plaster floor in order to seal the soil and create a strong sub-floor. Some coarse ware ceramics were recovered. |
