Overlies | Overlies (and at times cuts into): Locus 28, pavement. |
Abuts | The north face of Locus 13 podium steps. |
Description | Consists of both limestone blocks (0.40-0.50 m in length and 0.36 m in width) with roughly-hewn inner channel (0.16 m in width), mostly present in the east half of the trench, and also ceramic pipe (ca. 0.10 m in diameter). The limestone blocks, with mortar joins, are in good condition, but the ceramic pipe is extremely damaged, and, in a few places, missing entirely. This drain was also uncovered in Trenches 1 and 2, 1993; in Trench 1, much of the ceramic pipe was still intact. (Note: Dr. Zayadine, in a brief visit to the site, confirmed the opinion that the drain was not original to the Temple construction plan and that it indeed appeared to be Roman rather than Nabataean.) Water flow was apparently west and then northwest, into Locus 20 catchment drain. |
