Description | This wall is composed of hewn and unhewn, sandstone blocks, of a great variety of size and shape (0.10 m to 0.50 m). It appears to have been laid with mud, not mortar. Its average thickness is ca. 0.60 m at its highest point in the south of the trench; 1.3 m are exposed. It is not well-made. There is a slight possibility, though, that the lowest courses of the wall in the very south of the trench are of an earlier construction period. Three large blocks, running into the south balk, are nicely-dressed and laid and look out of place in the rest of Locus 12s sloppy construction. If this is the case, this may have been some sort of walkway wall running along the west side of the Temple. Further excavation of this wall to the south would probably answer this question. |
Bottom (m) | Founding elevation: 904.196 m at north. |
