Stage Description | Construction of the West Staircase and Lower Temenos Retaining wall. |
Description | Locus 13 is a lead pipe, preserved to some 0.50 m, extending from out of the West Retaining Wall of the West Staircase, Locus 6. It is unclear whether the wall was cut through to lay the pipe, or if the pipe was run through a gap created in the wall during its construction expressly for this purpose. It seems clear, however, that the pipe was set into and followed the canalization gap formed by the curbstone (Locus 20) and the east-west foundation wall (Locus 21); it was covered by capstones and/or plastered over. |
