Description	Built approximately in a square, this insertion is constructed from varied types of stones. The lower portion (visible only from inside Vault Locus 12) is a type of irregular rubble construction of undressed boulders and fieldstones built up in a slope toward the vault entrance from the layer of unhewn stones (Locus 30). On top of this rubble construction were placed well-dressed sandstone and limestone ashlars laid in a square header and stretcher arrangement using wet-mortar. There appear to be four courses and four rows of hewn stones above the portion constructed of rubble. The entire construction was inserted to abut the side walls (Loci 31 and 32), and was secured with mortar on both the north and south sides. The insertion creates a “floor” level at the entrance of the vault, which is approximately flush with the level of the abutting West Cryptoporticus East floor pavers. Like the blockage in Vault Locus 14, this appears to be a secondary period of construction.
