A new cut is started in 37-39, to the north ni grids O-E. in D-E 37, a depth of 80cm. is reached, while D-E38/39 is 65 cm. deep. The burn layer continues at "floor" level (c.90cm) as before. Excavation continued to the south IIV I38-39, where many large tile fragments and much pottery was found in and near the burn layer.

We continue to dig southward from K38-39. Soil of burn layer continued to appear below, gradually, as blotches of yellow and oragne matter as weell as charcoal appear in teh dark tan soil above. Pottery is common and fine ware, buccheroand buff, is comparable in quantity to the heavfier and coarser orange and impasto sherds. Bone occurs, some burnt. Several fragments of ivory, however emerge (#2-6).
Tile is plentiful, mainly near the nid to lower part of the cut. Among the fine ware a painted buff sherd (#1), and a rim and large base fragment from heavy pithoi occur among the coarse ware. Bronze slag is rare (1 fragment)
A sample is taken of a dense sandy material which occurs in clums (#8) we reach the beginning of grid L.
