II. METHODOLOGY

CA-77 was laid out on the master grid-system established for the site.

Datum Point:  Located on a tree situated south of the trench at 27.78 m. above absolute elevation.

Units of Measure:

Terracotta was measured by volume utilizing a plastic bowl with a diameter of 16 cm. and a depth of 8 cm.  (NB: correction: approximate inner lower diameter of 18 cm., approximate inner upper diameter of  24 cm. and approximate depth of 7 cm.- EC, 2 July 2016)

Pottery was measured by volume utilizing a latte-box of one liter capacity.

Note on Special Find drawings:

The measurements given for the drawings are only rough approximations for identification purposes.

Pick-pass:

Excavation method used for the most part.  The soil was then either shoveled into a bucket and hand-sorted into a wheebarrow or troweled and hand-sorted into a bucket.  A pick-pass may indicate multiple pickings over the same area.
