AM

We started the morning off by using heavy pickaxes to break up the compact and dry soil, which resulted from the rain from Friday. However, the soil is still dense and continues to be soft in texture when broken apart. Despite the kind of rockiness we are encountering, the dense soil suggest that perhaps we are getting close to some kind of passible surface. The loose dirt is hand sorted into buckets. We began in the middle of the trench and extended out towards the eastern end.
