Completed a rough topo. survey of CD, and it appears that all of the terracotta fragments that one can find on the hard-pan in the treeless area must originate in the area as everything seems to slope away, leaving the hard-pan as the center of a kind of plateau. This is good news as it means that the surface finds from 6/8 must not have moved very far since deposition. The resulting map (p.
- ) has some problems however. The trenches that I hoped to
verify as Wrights, really remains in question as it is not oriented as I would have expected it. The isobars should not be taken literally, especially on the southern slope as I did not have the opportunity to survey this area very well. The steep slopes in the SW (near the gully) and in the E are fairly reliable. Both slopes revealed out-croppings of bed-rock, and I hope that we will be able to extend our clearing out to the slope, as it is not much farther. In that area, not far from what I believe is CT-1A was a dirt mound, with a piece of terracotta on top. I am guessing, at this point, that is is Wright's soil dump from 1968.
