Work continued in locus 11 by leveling it down with trowels to the elevation of locus 5 and 6. The soil is (light) olive brown [ 2.5 Y, (5)4/3] It contains numerous carbon inclusions, some of which are 1-1.5 cm in size and have a texture of carbonized wood.

Portion of locus 9, containing pale olive soil [ 5 Y, 6/3] that was immediately west and north of locus 11 was brought down to the same level as locus 11. One fragment of impasto was found in otherwise sterile locus 9 soil, which most likely is a result of bioturbation.

All other archaeological material was found in locus 11 soil. Two latte boxes of pottery and bone fragments were recovered this morning. The material included: 61 bone fragment (1 partial jaw); 16 very worn tile fragments (1-3 cm); 1 bucchero fragment; 28 coarse ware, 18 orange ware, and approximately 83 impasto fragments. Also,a large bone fragment with butcher mark was found. Pottery fragments included several rims and bases.

Horizontal plan for the dark soil feature was done, showing locus 11 which now includes loci 5 and 7.

West baulk was trimmed back 10 cm in order to pick up western border of darker soil. The soil was designated locus 12 and material recovered from it included 6 impasto fragments and 4 fragments of bone.

Work also continued in locus 11 and locus 6. Both were leveled to approximately 55-60 cm b.d. All archaeological material found was contained within locus 11. It included 19 bone fragments (2 teeth), 4 pieces of largely disintegrated tile; 18 coarse ware, 5 bucchero, 8 orange ware, and

41 impasto fragments. Pottery fragments included several rims and a piece of a handle.
