Trench Location/Layout - 2013 Sounding

Trench Location

CA is located directly south of CA 71 and north of CA 83. The sounding dropped in 2013 is 60cmx2m. Its location is directly to the east of the 2012 CA 70 sounding, which measured 2mx1.2m in its completion. The 2013 sounding was strung without a transit but is based on the master grid.

The coordinated of the sounding are as follows:

NW: 58.4mE/37mS

NE: 59mE/37mS

SE: 59mE/39mS

SW: 58.4/39mS

While stringing the trench, it was noticed that there was a discrepancy in coordinates of about 10 cm when the 2013 sounding was laid. Even though when being dropped flush up against the 2013 sounding, the coordinates for the western

North-South axis did not correlate with the noted coordinates for 2012 sounding in AAF II 2012. A Few different explanations are possible for this, the chief fact being that we shot a new baseline at the beginning of the 2013 excavation season.

The Trench as of 2013 is illustrated bellow:

The trench sounding illustrated in relation to the 2013 CA trenches to the south:

A datum point located on a tree approx. 3.5 meters to the east of the sounding is being used and has the absolute elevation of 27.97m Absolute Elevation.

Trench Layout

The coordinates of CA 70 – 2013 sounding have been plotted based on the Master Grid and trench lines laid out under the direction of

J. Duggan. The distinguishing features of the 2013 sounding are presented below.

There is one root roughly 20 cm located in the middle of the trench. In addition to this there is a large central rock and numerous smaller rocks located all over the sounding. The 2013 sounding is largely flat and relatively sunbaked.
