Work continued in the north extension od trench 18. In the morning the workmen cleared the rocks in grids O-P 28-32 of the mud which had accumulated over the weekend. Then the workmen began excavating the red layer in grid N 31. Here, next to the N-S wall foundations, were found many pieces belonging to a large, undecorated, probably coarse ware vase. The red stratum here also contains large chunks of burned wall plaster and a few scattered tile fragments. The workmen continued doing this meter wide strip of fallen, burned wall plaster into grids K-M 31. Here, lying in the heavy concentration of wall plaster, were found many large terracotta tile fragments including at least 2 ridge pole tile ends, many large pan-tile fragments and a few pieces of cover-tile. These tile fragments are lying very close to the N-S wall foundations in grids J-N 32, and all appear heavily burned.
