Excavation continued in the North extension of trench 18. One workman cleaned above the N-S wall foundations in grid M 28, while the other man continued excavating the red layer in grids M 29-30. They also cleaned above the heavy mass of burned, reddihs wall plaster which lies adjacent to the N-S wall foundation in trench 19; the heaviest concentration of this wall plaster lies in grids J-M 31 (see drawing p. ) Bits of burned red pottery were found imbedded in this plaster on the west flank.
More sherds of red pottery were excavated in the red stratum of grids M 29-30 including a few complete feet, rim pieces with dotted elliptical guilloche, plain handles, etc. (see
). This stratum also contains bits of carbon and chunks of wall plaster. Muchh of the pottery is heavily encrusted.
much of the afternoon was spent in excavating a complete, black bucchero cup or bowl. As it was extremely fragile it was lifted in its surrounding dirt. Before being lifted, it was photographed (see p.20 and below, find #1)
