Trench: D.9

Date: May 28, 2005

Work today went on with big pick. Ashy soil in the middle of the trench is probably coming from the W side of N section and continuing diagonally all the way down to the E side of the S section. It is hard to see the edge of this soil but it is separating the L.39 in the E side of the trench from the L. 38, which remains in the rest of the trench. L. 40 turns out to be the wrong interpretation of the soil texture that did not continue today when excavations went on in this area. For that reason, L.40 is dropped and L.38 expanded.

Has note The purpose of the daily journal was to record the activities taking place in a trench each day. This included which loci were excavated, how and why loci were excavated and the ongoing impressions of the relationships among loci. It should be noted that journals record the actions, impressions and ideas of trench supervisors during the excavations. They are not, therefore, the final interpretations or syntheses of the emerging data.
