Work continued in and around the tile-pithos-rock concentration in G-I/91-92. In H/91 at a depth of 20-30 cm a large pithos base was discovered facing upwards on a slant. All around this area the soil was dark but included large amounts of disintegrated plaster, red and black burn. Before, more to the east, very little burn was found. Only a few fragments of tile and pithos, however, showed any blackening or sign of burning. About 1 1/4 cassette of mostly tile with a few plaster chunks was removed from above and around this area. Some of the plaster showed flat edges and reed
marks and was reserved. All pithos fragments continued to be reserved to check for joins. Most interestingly from this area came a bit more than one latte box of fineware pottery. This included a bucchero base, a bucchero votive cup, fine decorated redware fragments and a molded redware handle (see finds).
The cut in 86-88 moved in to I with a heavy disintegrated plaster layer with burn and terracotta as well as plaster chunks becoming increasingly evident at the floor of the cut at a depth of about 55cm going into I. The depth of the cut does vary considerably because of the topography. Ideally, the floor of the cut should just skim the plaster and terracotta layer. About one cassetta of tile (60%) and plaster chunks (40%) was recovered with very few pieces of burned. Additionally about one latte box of mixed ceramics was found. A few fragments of ivory were found at the very western edge of the cut between I and K including a worked piece of molding- see finds.
