Total Amount of Pottery for CB 47 in 2011: 720

A relatively high amount of pottery was recovered in CB 47 during the 2011 season. In total there were 720 fragments; comparatively the larger trench of CB 43 to the south collected around 400 sherds. The amount is more inline with excavations done in the Civitate A area which typically recover 500-1000 sherds.

Locus 2 contained the most pottery, at 524 sherds. Impasto was the most found type, at 482 sherds. Of the total fragments, none were cataloged. A fair amount of fine impasto and a small amount of bucchero were recovered. The discovery of two pieces of Medieval pottery, though not cataloged, indicates human presence through the Medieval period. Other finds further reinforce these conclusions and do not provide any additional information.

One rocchetto fragment was found, which, though prevalent on the Piano del Tesoro, is only one of eight found in the Civitate B area (at the time of the writing of this summary).
