The morning started off with the continuation of the pick pass from the east to the west section of the trench through Locus 3 . Heavy pick axes broke up the initial layer of soil and was then hand sorted into buckets along with the troweling of the remaining loose dirt. Unlike the previous loci, this locus 3 is contextualized as we have not found any medieval or later material and because the amount of pottery and the size of terra cotta have both
increased. The soil is still a dark brown hue soft in texture. when broken apart, the particulars of the soil become very fine. Our second pick pass of the morning led right up to the edge of the large tree stump in the north west corner. It remains unclear of when we will be able to remove the stump.
After the second pick pass through locus 3 we began to hand soft through the loose dirt once again. During this process, we discovered a piece of vitrified terra cotta (Special Find #1).
