Methodology
II. Methodology
The trench will be excavated manually using big picks, hand picks, trowels and brushes. Terracotta and plaster will be counted by bowls (the bowl used has a diameter of 22 cm and a maximum depth of 8,5 cm). If larger amounts of pottery are found they will be counted by 1-liter latte boxes.
The coordinates of special finds will be measured from the closest trench edge using tape measure and plumb bob while the elevation of special finds will be measured from a datum point outside the trench using string, line level, plumb bob and tape measure.
The term "medieval" will be used broadly to describe any glazed pottery that is not ancient nor very recent (in the latter case the term \x94modern\x94 will be used).
Records will be kept by Fredrik Tobin and Melissa Ludke.
