Work continued in AB/28-30.  In the A grids, we are uncovering tile and pottery frags at a depth of 90 cm from the crown of the slope.  These lie next to the retaining wall beneath the north extension wall.  The foundation stones of the north extension and the retaining wall stones terminate at a depth of 60 cm from the surface of the wall.  Tile and pottery frags appear to run beneath the retaining wall at this point.

A cut approx. 1 m wide, 28, and 3 m long, B-D, was excavated to a depth of 1 m 25 when measured from the top of the northern foundation wall of the upper extension.  This particular cut revealed a heavy stone packing intermixed with small amounts of pottery and various pan tile fragments.

When the stones were removed, a light yellow soil stratum

was discovered, yielding nothing.  Fragments discovered above the sloping rock packing include bone, pan tiles, and a small bit of incised bucchero found in grid A-28.  The yellow stratum appears to begin underneath the northern foundation wall of the N. extension.  It seems to slope at a matching angle underneath the sloping rock packing in grids C-E/28-30.
