Section D-E/28 was excavated further to a depth well below the sloping rock packing which rests in grids C-E/28-30. Two strawberry boxes of coarseware pottery, bucchero fragments, some bone, and two pellets of bronze were found at a level beneath the rock packing.
Noteworthy pieces include an orangeware foot, a coarseware rim fragment with a dimpled band, and some pieces of well fired bucchero. The soil is characteristically dark brown intermixed with some occasional small stones. The depth of the cut when measured from the top of the northern foundation wall of the "northern upper extension" is 2 m 16. A section of a bronze pin was also found.
- Fragment of a bronze pin
In the afternoon, work involved lifting the large stone packing in grids E/29-30 to the depth of 2 m 16. As usual the heavy packing was intermixed with the tile fragments.
