Excavation continued in locus 1 with pick and shovel, and sorting was done in a wheelbarrow.  Locus 1 was finished in the early afternoon.  Approximately two dozen small wellworn fragments of terracotta were recovered.  No pottery sherds were found.  The entire area of the trench was declared locus 2 .  The soil of locus 2 is grayish-brown in color and has numerous small stones fist-size and smaller.  This locus is probably the modern surface before the dirt dump was placed on top.  Photos were taken and co-ordinate depths measured.

Opening Co-ordinates of locus 2:

NW (65-E/41-S):  79 cm. below datum point = 26.99 m. above absolute elevation.

NE (68-E/41-S):  72 cm. below datum point =  27.06 m. above absolute elevation.

SE (68-E/44-S):  85 cm. below datum point =  26.93 m. above absolute elevation.

SW (65-E/44-S):  92 cm. below datum point =  26.86 m. above absolute elevation.

Excavation commenced in locus 2 with pick and shovel, and sorting was done in a wheelbarrow.  A pick-pass across the entire trench was finished of approximately 5 cm. in depth.  An iron tack was found (S.F. #1), which is probably modern.  A plastic piece from a shotgun shell was found, an indication that locus 2 is the modern surface.  Six small well-worn fragments of terracotta were recovered.  No pottery sherds were found.
