Work then began with a pick pass to the western half of the trench as during excavation yesterday the eastern half had become deeper, making the trench slightly uneven. A full bowl of terracotta was found in this pass, and pottery is also appearing. In the south west near to Stump F, a piece of iron (Special Find 1) was found.

With the trench levelled, work began with hand picks in the SE corner to loosen dirt around stumps F and G in preparation for their removal, as we are now down to their level in the remainder of the trench. Once dirt was cleared away from the stumps, however, it became clear that CB56 is not yet deep enough to remove the stumps effectively as yet. The northern metre was then picked, and while the debris was collected, 4 pieces of medieval pottery were found together amongst roots. (Special Find 2)

Work continued clearing the morningm pick pass. The southern area of the trench was then picked and picked up, with noticeably less material evident in the area. (AM pre 9:15 1 bowl of terracotta, AM and PM post 9:15 3/4 bowl of terracotta thus far). A pick pass was done in the north east area in order to level and remove roots. Meanwhile, the southern and western baulk walls were tidied along with the northern border with CB 53.
