Due to the needs of the excavation for speed and the ease in finding density changes with a pick, we will revert back to shoveling soil and sorting at the wheelbarrow. The southern meter of the trench remained the dark-brown color, while the northern part of the locus 6 (~50-51 S) has patches of white/yellow decayed rock. Because of the appearance of these patches excavation will focus on the southern half of the locus. A pick pass was done in the southern meter. While picking a piece of frieze plaque with a guilloche was recovered (SF #1). Soil was shoveled and sorted at the wheelbarrow. Tile and pottery was recovered.

Another pick pass was done in the same meter. Tile and pottery was recovered. Soil was shoveled into buckets and dumped into the wheelbarrow for sorting. While examining the tile bowl a piece of vitrified terracotta was found (SF #2). The ridge between CB 54 and 57 and between CB5 54 and 53 were removed to keep the floor of the trench level.

The southern meter was picked again. Soil was shoveled and sorted. A tooth fragment was found and will be counted in bulk bone, but it is the second bone fragment from the trench. Tile and pottery were recovered. Another pick pass was done in the southern meter. The soil still appears the same clay-like dark brown. Soil was shoveled and sorted a the wheelbarrow. The western baulk wall was trimmed back. While working, a piece of rounded stone was found (SF #3).

A pick pass was done in the southern meter. Soil was shoveled and sorted at the wheelbarrow. Tile and pottery was recovered. A second pass was done in the same meter. While sorting the buckets a piece of slag was unveiled (SF #4). A third pick pass was done in the southern meter. Soil was shoveled and sorted at the wheelbarrow.

A 4th pick pass was done in the southern meter. The soil remains the same color and texture, although more flecks of decayed rock are appearing, still not as much as in the northern part of the same locus. The floor of the trench is not at the same depth as CB 57 and lower than CB 56, the soil shows no change in density here. The next meter north was picked (52-51 S). While picking a piece of frieze plaque was found (SF #5). Soil was shoveled into buckets and dumped into the wheelbarrow for sorting. While sorting a piece of worked chert was found (SF #6). It was noticed while picking that there was a soft spot in the center of the meter at roughly 51.8 E, 52 S. Since there is a lot of loose soil on the floor, it will be scraped to better
see any changes in the soil density. The ridge between CB 54 and 57 was leveled.
