AM:

Work began trowleing the rock/terracotta feature in order to define the extent. Beginning where work left off on Friday, it seems as though more terracotta than rock is visible within the SW corner. These rocks are very small (5cm). As we pull back however, rock seems to outnumber terracotta once again\x97though numbers of both are great. Along the northern wall special attention is paid to leveling the surface with the rest of the trench. As the surface becomes more level and defining continues into the eastern meters, the rock/terracotta feature seems to continues once again across the entire surface of the trench. Along the northern wall many of the rocks are bigger in size (20-25cm). We will continue troweling until the entirety of the trench and the feature has been defined.

After defining the entire rock/terracotta feature, the rocks remain most concentrated along the western wall. Along the eastern wall, rock and terracotta are found in slightly less concentration, though are generally larger in size than the opposing trench size (the west). As the soil remains uniform across the entire trench (olive/brown, claylike) and material (rock/terracotta) are found throughout, the

trench in its entirely remains Locus 3 . After defining the feature, roots were clipped and the surface was swept to prepare for photos. Photos of Locus 3 , level 2 rock feature were taken, as were elevations. Elevations of this portion of the Locus are:

After lunch we bean removing the material of Locus 3 level 2. Rocks were placed in the rock dump, terracotta was laced in the bowl, and pottery was added to the Locus 3 pottery latte box. Removal of material began once again along the western wall. We will take out all visible, surface level rock and terracotta, and scrape down the dirt to keep the surface level.

After approximately \xbd meter into the removal of feature material, the plans for CB 46 shifted. Further consideration led to more inquiries on the actual extent of the feature. To discover the actual extent it was decided that CB-46 will have two extensions:

one to the north and one to the south, in hopes of finding the northern and southern borders of the feature. Before establishing these extensions\x97to be deemed Locus 4 and Locus 5 \x97the \xbd meter already trowel will be re-defined and dirt will be sorted. While sweeping the surface of the entire trench to prepare for extension a piece of partially vitrified terracotta was found (special find #1). Elevations and coordinates were taken:

Once the trench was full defined and swept, we cleared the areas of our two extensions. Our trench will have two 1x2 extensions off the northern and southern walls that join the western walls..

The extensions were drawn using the known eastern line, as well as the northern and the southern. Once the nails were in place, lines were drawn and surveyors tae was wrapped around each nail. After clearing the surfaces of each extension, opening photos of each extension were taken: the northern extension is declared as Locus 4 , the southern extension is declared as Locus 5 . Effectively, CB-46 is now T-shaped. Elevations of the four corners and the center of each Locus were measured. The elevations are:

Both the surfaces of Locus 4 and Locus 5 remain relatively flat and level. Locus 5 has no large rocks or organic material like stumps. Locus 4 has three stumps, the largest of which is in the SE corner of the extensions and beneath the nail of the NE (trench)/SE (extension) corner. Ground will break in these Loci tomorrow; Locus 3 material summaries are:
