Grids F-G/28-30 were excavated further this morning through a stratum of brown soil intermixed with large stones and frequent tile fragments.  The depth of the cut when measured from the upper foundation walls of the northern extention is approx. 2 m 50.  Finds today included a female terracotta head, fragments to a large yellowware vessel, perhaps with profile preserved, and two large coarseware handle fragments with decoration and bucchero pieces.

The formation of rocks cleaned beneath the "Galestra" in grids B-D/28=33 is most probably bedrock.

Work on this afternoon consisted of a further excavation of grids F-G/28-30.  The earth at this level consists of a concentrated packing of "fist-size" stones laid on top of each other.  The presence of air cavaties within the packing allows one to remove the stones by hand.  An abundance of tile fragments have been found jammed between stones.

The depth of the packing at this time cannot be ascertained.  Pottery pieces found include bucchero, coarseware handles, and more pieces of a yellow ware vessel found this morning.
