Description | Locus 18 is the exposed hewn bedrock plateau in the precinct southwest. The surface of the bedrock is moderately level and contains a series of deep quarrying cuts arranged in a loose grid. The cuts measure approximately 0.15 m in width and are positioned roughly 1.10 m apart. The depth of the cuts ranges from 0.08 m to 0.27 m and the overall difference in elevation across the plateau is 0.18 m. Locus 18 has been assigned to this stage because the quarrying and leveling of the bedrock postdates the construction and use of the caves, and predates the construction of architectural superstructure in this area. |
