Description This is the top sedimentation deposit of compacted soil consisting of fine silt and sand, with the Munsell Color range between 7.5YR 6/4 (Light Brown) and 5/6 (Strong Brown). It extends the length of Trench 97, from the North balk of Trench 79 from the 2001 excavation until the North balk of the 2004 excavation where the West Cryptoporticus East intersects the Propylaeum, and spans the actual width of the cryptoporticus gallery. Locus 2 defines the fill depth from the surface of the overburden down to the top of the preserved arch springers. The deposit includes a selection of small artifact types, with pottery and stucco predominating. There are also many architectural elements, including a significant number of limestone fragments from Elephant-headed capitals. Note: The assignment of this locus to Stage 6 is primarily in reference to the collapsed architectural elements; deposition of the fill is more appropriately assigned to Stages 6–8.
Bottom (m) Closing elevation: ca. 896.260 m (average).
Stage Description Major collapse.
Overlies Loci 5, 9.
Stage Stage 6
